端午節的英文，其實我們完全可以說 The Duanwu Festival。 因為對那些不了解漢語或中國文化的人來說，the Duanwu Festival 和 the Dragan Boat Festival 真的沒有任何區別...

（但是如果考試，千萬要寫Dragon Boat Festival，閱卷老師可能只認這個……）

一個名字傳達不了太多，關鍵在于對名字背后含義的解釋。

The Dragon Boat Festival falls on the 5th day of the 5th lunar month.

端午節在農歷五月初五。

表示某個節日是在哪一天，用 fall on，落在某一天。

fall on 真的既地道又官方，寫在試卷上絕對很高級的。

對端午節的解釋，當然就是端午節的幾個重要傳統習俗了！

首先，粽子， rice-dumpling/zo ngzi.

因為大部分外國人對粽子沒有概念，所以名字說成什么樣，他們都是很難懂，那我們干脆就說 Zongzi 好啦。

Zongzi are pyramid-shaped dumplings made of glutinous rice, stuffed with different fillings and wrapped in bamboo leaves.

粽子是金字塔形狀的糯米做的餃子，有不同的餡兒，包在竹葉里面。

1）have bamboo leaves watered.

粽葉先浸水。

2）Fill the boat shape with a few tablespoons of the soaked sticky rice. Top with a sprinkling of mung beans.

在船型粽葉中填入幾勺浸濕的糯米，再加少許綠豆。

3）Add some smoked meat and shrimps.

再加入腌制過的肉和蝦。

4）Packed it with line with three, four, or five angles.

用線把粽子裹起來，可以做成三角、四角或五角。

5）Boiled them, first with big fire, then turn to small fire till rip.

然后再進行蒸煮，先用大火，再轉成小火直到粽子殼開裂。

當然吃瓜群眾在端午節除了吃粽子，也少不了看熱鬧。端午節的熱鬧當屬賽龍舟~

賽龍舟：Dragon boat racing.

Dragon boat racing is a traditional pastime.

賽龍舟是一項傳統娛樂活動。

Crews of 22 people in long, dragon-shaped boats race lengths of 2000 meters.

22名隊員坐在像龍一樣的長長的船里，比賽劃2000米。

雖然端午節還有其他一些活動，但把賽龍舟和吃粽子這兩個 tradition 介紹清楚了，就已經很棒啦！

The Dragon Boat Festival,also called Double Fifth Festival,is celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth month according to the Chinese calendar.

This festival is to commemorate the death of QU Yuan,an upright and honest poet and statesman who is said to have committed suicide by drowning himself in a river.

The most important activity of this festival is the Dragon Boat races. It symbolizes people‘s attempts to rescue Qu Yuan. In the current period, these races also demonstrate the virtues of cooperation and teamwork.

Besides,the festival has also been marked by eating zong zi (glutinous rice).

The Dragon Boat Festival is one of the most popular traditional festivals celebrated in China,which is on the fifth of the fifth lunar month, also known as Double Fifth Festival.

It’s said that it is to commemorate the death of a Chinese patriotic poet, Qu Yuan, who was snared by corrupt officials in ancient China and finally committed suicide by drowning himself in the Miluo River to protest against them.

Nowadays dragon boat races have been an annual popular sport activity among people. In addition,making and eating Zongzi—a dumpling made of glutinous rice and wrapped in bamboo or reed leaves—is also a popular custom during this day.

It can be made by many kinds of stuffing. What’s more, hanging herbs on the front door, drinking realgar wine and pasting up picture of Zhong Kui—a mythic guardian figure in ancient china—are also popular during the festival, which mean protecting, people from evil and diseases.

這個傳統習俗不同的地方有不同的慶祝方式，但也有相同的方面。首先，最出名的傳統就是舉行龍舟比賽，這是由漁民們舉行的，通過打鼓和劃龍形的船來保護屈原的身體免受魚類和其他動物的攻擊。現在龍舟賽是人們一年一度的流行的體育活動。此外，做和吃粽子——糯米面團，包著竹葉或蘆葦葉，在那一天也是 一個流行的風俗。它可以由不同種類的餡料制成。還有就是，門上掛著草藥，人們喝雄黃酒，在門前張貼中國古代神話人物鐘馗的圖片在節日期間也是很受歡迎的，做這些的意義是保護人們免受邪惡和疾病。
